I don’t think poker is a sport. It’s the greatest game in the world, but it’s not a sport. The Olympics is the place for sports without leagues. Poker has its own place.

Usually I just feel like another guy, but yeah, from time to time it happens that I run into Australopithecus tables, where my table mates seem they haven’t seen a woman in ages. I hate it in these cases. I don’t like feeling over observed or realise that the other people at the table are talking about me. Sometimes though it can be positive; if someone doesn’t know you as a player they’ll use stereotypes, and being a woman means they’ll assume you are tight and weaker than a man… that’s great! Nothing is better in poker than opponents assuming wrong information!

I think games with variance built into them are so much better than games with no variance modifier. In chess there is always an optimum move. In the same way poker has an optimum move or decision as well, but its often much much harder to see that or even think about that correct decision as there is so much fluctuation that its tough to tell if that move is correct. I’ve played live with him, and cash, Hold’em, Stud, Omaha, whatever, and he is just the most consistently good player at everything – include online based on what his results look like. Online play always seemed to be a little bit out of my comfort zone. Online seems to be more about the statistics and math side of poker (which is a big part of the game but something I usually consider without really having to think about it). And with online gamers it is “positive ev” this and “nit” that and “c bet” this and “lmfao”… it’s like another whole world out there, even for someone like myself who has played poker for many years.
