Usually I just feel like another guy, but yeah, from time to time it happens that I run into Australopithecus tables, where my table mates seem they haven’t seen a woman in ages. I hate it in these cases. I don’t like feeling over observed or realise that the other people at the table are talking about me. Sometimes though it can be positive; if someone doesn’t know you as a player they’ll use stereotypes, and being a woman means they’ll assume you are tight and weaker than a man… that’s great! Nothing is better in poker than opponents assuming wrong information!

Online play always seemed to be a little bit out of my comfort zone. Online seems to be more about the statistics and math side of poker (which is a big part of the game but something I usually consider without really having to think about it). And with online gamers it is “positive ev” this and “nit” that and “c bet” this and “lmfao”… it’s like another whole world out there, even for someone like myself who has played poker for many years.

As far as being a female poker player, it just complicates dating a little more. I have a really hectic schedule. I don’t have a typical 9 to 5 where I can meet a guy in a more normal setting. Most of the guys I meet are indirectly involved with poker somehow or some piece of poker business. I don’t date poker players however! To me they are like my co-workers and if it doesn’t work out, you have no where to go or hide if it gets ugly. Your personal life gets spilled over to everyone else in the community. As a general rule of thumb, it’s a pretty bad idea to date other poker players.
